Austin Hatcher Foundation and Petit Le Mans: A Perfect Fit

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (Oct. 3, 2017) – This week, the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer will bask in the spotlight shining on the International Motor Sports Association’s (IMSA) season-ending event, the 20th anniversary running of the Motul Petit Le Manson Saturday at the famed Road Atlanta circuit in Braselton, Georgia.

It’s a back-to-the-roots feel for the Austin Hatcher Foundation, an IMSA “Proud Charity,” due to a history that began when the foundation was the Official Charity of the American Le Mans Series. In the foundation’s early years, Road Atlanta was a special showcase in terms of fundraising efforts and at-track experiences for young cancer patients and their family members. Along the way off-track activities blossomed and have continued to do so.

This week’s activities begin on Wednesday with a return visit by foundation staff to the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, with the foundation bringing its innovative Diversionary Therapy Division services for an afternoon aimed at providing a respite to young cancer patients and their families. A staple of the Diversionary Therapy visits is having children build and race Pinewood Derby miniature race cars.Joining the foundation staff for this visit will be IMSA driver Bryan Sellers from Paul Miller Racing. Sellers is eighth in GT Daytona class standings, going into the season finale.

There will also be an at-track family day on Saturday, where patients and their families can participate in a variety of activities amid the excitement of a major sports car event weekend at one of the world’s most famous road racing facilities.

At-track fundraising auctions are scheduled for the Audi, Corvette and Porsche corrals – plus an open fan auction hosted by Paul Miller Racing and a special silent auction hosted at the Austin Hatcher Foundation tent overlooking the circuit.Auctions hosted typically feature photography, paintings, used race parts and other sports car memorabilia up for bid.
