AUSTIN HATCHER FOUNDATION DIVERSIONARY THERAPY PROGRAM, IMSA DRIVERS TO VISIT GOLISANO CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

In conjunction with one of North America’s premier sports car events, the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer will have a strong upstate New York presence this week, with support from the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) community.

Foundation staff will be joined by Danny Burkett and Marc Miller, drivers for CJ Wilson Racing, for a Wednesday “Diversionary Therapy” visit to Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester (New York) Medical Center. Young oncology patients and their families will enjoy an afternoon of building and racing the foundation’s signature Pinewood Derby cars – with the help of Burkett and Miller, who will be racing Saturday in the IMSA Continental Tires SportsCar Challenge race, the Continental Tire 150, at the famed Watkins Glen International road circuit in Watkins Glen, New York.

On Sunday, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will showcase the weekend’s main race, the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of The Glen endurance classic.

As a proud charity of IMSA, the Austin Hatcher Foundation partners with hospitals, often in race markets, to provide unique Diversionary Therapy sessions that offers families a respite from the everyday realities of a fight against pediatric cancer. The Austin Hatcher Foundation’s services to young cancer patients and their families are provided at no cost; all services are paid for by donations received by the foundation.

“Whenever our Diversionary Therapy visits involve race-car drivers, the children are overjoyed,” said Austin Hatcher Foundation President Amy Jo Osborn, “and the parents and siblings also get pretty excited. It’s a great experience for everyone involved and a much-needed one for the children and their families.

“For our foundation, it’s fun work – and important work. And it’s what we are so blessed to provide.”

In addition, during the race weekend at Watkins Glen the Lamborghini VIP Car Corral and Corvette Coral will be hosting auctions to help raise funds.  Lamborghini will sell Barrow Art by award-winning Naples, Florida artist Karen Barrow to corral guests, with proceeds going to the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
