The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer was recently awarded a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to assist with the many emotional and cognitive therapy services offered by its local pediatric cancer care center, Hatch’s House of Hope.
“Wells Fargo Advisors is pleased to be able to contribute to such a worthwhile cause,” says John Grzesiak, First Vice President and Chattanooga Branch Manager. “We are committed to making a positive difference in our community, and are confident that this grant will improve the quality of life for those served by the Austin Hatcher Foundation.”
The grant will be used for the purchase of tablet computers, which will augment the counseling, cognitive remediation, and other therapies received by the families served through Hatch’s. For children with cognitive deficits resulting from treatment, the tablets will allow for ongoing, computerized, attention-processing training. For families experiencing childhood behavioral problems, they will allow for real-time therapist observations and check-ins.
In addition to expanding care methods, the tablets will also be a tool with which to increase access to care for families who face challenges attending in-person therapy sessions, such as transportation costs, extended hospital stays, and work schedule conflicts. For these families, the tablets will allow for regular therapy through video conferencing.
“We are excited about how this grant will enable Hatch’s House of Hope to enhance and expand its therapy services and are very grateful to the Wells Fargo Foundation for their support of this new program,” said Amy Jo Osborn, President of the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
