IMSA Drivers Gear Up for 12 Hours of Sebring, Spend a Day with the Children of Florida Hospital for Children.

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 16, 2015) —  On Wednesday March 18th at 10:00 am, International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) drivers Dennis Trebing and Connor De Philippil will be spending the day with the patients from Florida Hospital for Children alongside the Austin Hatcher Foundation; an official “Proud Charity” of IMSA.

Dennis Trebing and Connor De Phillippi of Muehlner MotorSports America will spend the day building the Foundation’s signature Pinewood Derby cars with young patients, as part of the Foundation’s Diversionary Therapy program. This unique experience will allow Trebing and De Phillippi to motivate and inspire children to use their creativity and imagination as they build together. After decorating their cars, both the drivers and children will have a chance to race one another on the Foundation’s 20-foot derby track. Patients unable to join the group activity will have personal visits from the drivers in the comfort of their rooms.

Florida Hospital for Children’s team of over 135 highly skilled pediatric specialists delivers extraordinary care across more than 35 pediatric subspecialties, including a Children’s Emergency Department, the Level IV Comprehensive Pediatric Epilepsy Center, a world-renowned Pediatric Heart Center and its Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). With more than 23 pediatric specialty surgeons performing complex operations in a safe and child-friendly environment, Florida Hospital for Children is a destination for health and healing.

“Florida Hospital for Children is such an amazing resource for families of Florida,” said Foundation President Amy Jo Osborn. “We are excited to be able to bring our program to such an outstanding facility.”

The Foundation’s unique Diversionary Therapy program offers families a much-needed distraction and escape from the everyday realities of battling pediatric cancer. This is the second year the Foundation has partnered with the IMSA to provide these services throughout the United States.

This visit will lead into the 12 Hours of Sebring, the second event of the 2015 IMSA season. The weekend is filled with auctions and fan-based activities to raise money for the Austin Hatcher Foundation. A live auction hosted by Extreme Speed Motorsports will be held on Friday from 12-12:30 p.m. Audi Sport Customer Racing USA will also host live and silent auctions on Saturday.
