Imsa Drivers To Visit Betty Jane France Center For Pediatrics “Speediatrics” At Halifax Health Before Rolex 24 At Daytona

On Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 1:00- 3:00pm, International Motorsports Association drivers Joey Hand of Chip Ganassi Racing, Antonio Garcia and Simon Pagenaud of Corvette Racing and Marino Franchitti will visit children at Speediatrics Unit of Halifax Health alongside the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer; a Proud Charity of IMSA.

Drivers Hand, Garcia, Pagenaud and Franchitti will motivate and inspire children to use their imagination and creativity as they build, paint, and create the Foundation’s signature pinewood derby car. After decorating and building their cars, drivers will have a chance to race the children on the 20 foot derby track! Those children not well enough to join the group’s activities will receive a personal, in room visit, from the drivers.

This unique Diversionary Therapy program offers families a much-needed distraction and escape from the everyday realities of pediatric cancer. This is the second year AHFPC has partnered with the International Motor Sports Association to provide these services nationwide.

The Betty Jane France Center for Pediatrics – Speediatrics- is a 36-bed unit that includes general pediatric care and a 5-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the first and only intensive care unit for children in East Central Florida.

Also joining the IMSA drivers on the hospital visit is Amy Jo Osborn, President and Co-Founder of the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.  “We are honored to be visiting such a wonderful facility as Speediatrics. Joey, Marino and all at Corvette Racing are long time supporters and friends of the Foundation.  They bring such joy and spirit to these children.”

The weekend is filled with auctions and fan based activities to raise money for the Austin Hatcher Foundation.  Saturday at 10am Spirit of Daytona is hosting a LIVE auction at their garage/transporter.  Audi is also hosting a live and silent auction at their VIP Audi Boardwalk.
