Austin Hatcher Foundation Receives Grant From Tony Stewart Foundation

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (February 9 – 2014) – The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Tony Stewart Foundation, via the Tony Stewart’s Foundation’s Grant Accelerator Program.

The Grant Accelerator Program provides pediatric cancer patients and their families who are receiving treatment at national or regional children’s hospitals the opportunity to interact with professional race car drivers. The aim is to create a fun environment that “accelerates change” for families dealing with the challenges of pediatric cancer. The program will have natural synergy with the Austin Hatcher Foundation, which is an official “Proud Charity” of the International Motor Sports Association, the Daytona Beach, Florida-based sports car sanctioning body. Prior to 2014, the Austin Hatcher Foundation was the Official Charity for the American Le Mans Series.

“I’ve always been impressed with the Austin Hatcher Foundation’s work in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series and, starting this past season, with IMSA,” said Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion who has devoted time and resources throughout his career to benefit charitable causes.

“These are good people who are doing good, important work on a daily basis to improve the quality of life for young cancer patients and their families. They are very well-deserving of our donation.”

“We are so proud of this annoucnement and obviously, so very appreciative that Tony’s foundation would include our organization in the Grant Accelerator Program,” said Austin Hatcher Foundation President Amy Jo Osborn.

“So many people know all about Tony’s accomplishments as a race car driver, but his charitable and philanthropic work is just as impressive and noteworthy.”

The term “accelerating change” is a core value for the Tony Stewart Foundation, which this year celebrated 10 years of providing grants to organizations serving children who are seriously ill or disabled.

For 2014 Tony’s foundation awarded $675,825 to 85 well-qualified organizations in 25 states serving children who are critically ill or physically disabled, animals at-risk or endangered and drivers injured in the sport of motor racing.
