Annual Fundraising Event ‘Tour de Road America – Bike Ride to Fight Cancer’ To Benefit Austin Hatcher Foundation at Legendary Road America Race Circuit

  •   At-Track Auctions during IMSA Race Weekend to Complement Bike Ride Efforts
  • Michael Shank Racing to Host Auction on Sunday

ELKHART LAKE, WIS.  (Aug. 1, 2017) – In what has become an annual fundraising highlight for the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, the “Tour de Road America – Bike Ride to Fight Cancer” returns to the famed Road America circuit on Friday at 6 p.m. with proceeds benefitting the foundation.

The Tour de Road America once again is part of the International Motor Sports Association’s (IMSA) Continental Tire Road Race Showcase weekend at the legendary Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin facility. IMSA’s top two series – the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge – will compete along with the Porsche GT3 Cup and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. The Austin Hatcher Foundation is an official “Proud Charity” of IMSA.

The “tour” is a family-friendly bicycle ride on the unique and scenic 4-file circuit. As in past years, the event follows the regular Friday IMSA schedule, enabling competitors to join IMSA and track personnel, families, friends, fans, local cyclists – and of course, cancer survivors. Riders can complete as many laps as they desire until nightfall. A fundraising goal of $25,000 has been established to assist the foundation in its mission to erase the effects of pediatric cancer.

There are a variety of registration options for the ride. For registrants not holding race credentials, purchase of a race ticket is required for registration. There also are special registration opportunities for IMSA drivers and team members. In addition, various sponsorship and donor opportunities are available. Registration at-track is scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday at the tour registration tent outside Road America’s main entrance. (Note: See attached map.)

In addition to the Tour de Road America, a number of auctions involving cycling and racing-related items are scheduled during the race weekend, also to benefit the foundation. Silent auctions are scheduled for the IMSA Paddock from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday. Also Sunday, Michael Shank Racing will host a fundraising auction at its team transporter from 11:15-11:45 a.m.

“We call the Tour de Road America a ride that can change your life – and maybe someone else’s, too,” said Austin Hatcher Foundation President Amy Jo Osborn. “The tour is both fun and somewhat competitive depending on how serious you are about cycling, but the bottom line is that each and every year the IMSA community really steps up on our behalf, as does the Road America community. We also are grateful for the involvement of Michael Shank Racing, one of the most established organizations in North American sports car racing.”

Throughout 2017, the Austin Hatcher Foundation is commemorating its first decade of operation. The foundation began in 2006; as part of the commemoration, the foundation is amid its “Five for Ten” fundraising campaign that has resulted in a number of a 10-year commitments by donors.  The organization’s “building a foundation for the future” platform is centered on continuing and expanding programs that benefitthose dealing with pediatric cancer and its lasting effects.
