About this Role

As a Patient Navigator, you'll create a welcoming atmosphere at the Education Advancement Center, greeting families and guests both in person and over the phone, addressing inquiries, and scheduling appointments to enhance patient satisfaction and optimize provider time. Your role involves comforting patients, addressing anxieties, and ensuring the availability of treatment information by managing patient records.

The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer’s mission is to erase the effects of pediatric cancer and optimize each child’s quality of life through essential specialized intervention beginning at the time of diagnoses and continuing throughout survivorship.  The Foundation provides services to children with cancer as well as their families through the Education Advancement Center.  The foundation provides all services at no cost to the families.  Services are funded solely by the generous donations of its supporters.

  • Be an advocate for families dealing with the effects of pediatric cancer

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming environment for families and guests visiting the Education Advancement Center
  • Welcomes patients and visitors in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries.
  • Optimizes patients’ satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties, answering patients’ questions.
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
  • Multitasking needs of patients arriving as well as answering the phone.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
  • Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
  • Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
  • Maintains operations by following clinical policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Conduct patient registration and create and maintain patient charts within the electronic medical record system.
  • Facilitate and schedule patient appointments/referrals with appropriate provider(s) for treatment.
  • Respond to patient inquiries, and assist patients with the completion of paperwork.
  • Educate patients on care processes and provide counsel to reduce anxiety and fear.
  • Using Electronic Health Record (EHR) system track navigation services, record messages from patients, and contribute to clinic tracking workflows.
  • Track appropriate patient-level quality outcomes for program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Work alongside Family Service Coordinator and Medical Historian to ensure patients are taken care of during appointments and programs.
  • Complete relevant medical documentation in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and maintains foundation basic supply needs as needed for provision of services and entertaining patients, donors, and visitors.
  • Maintain office supply inventory.
  • Maintains clean and patient friendly environment by restocking food & supplies as well as sanitizing environment regularly

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrable ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines.
  • Forward thinking and able to assess and make decisions on best patient care and organizational outcome.
  • Well-organized with a detail-oriented approach
  • Proficient communication and people skills
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to walk, bend, hear, see and lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to work weekends, mornings and evenings based on event schedule
  • Telephone skills
  • Experience in medical office
  • Proficient Microsoft office Suite skills.
