2020 Mahindra ROXOR Off-Road March Update
During the month of March, the Austin Hatcher Foundation made great progress on the 2020 Mahindra ROXOR Off-Road therapy vehicle. This is the fifth vehicle built by the foundation, and before the coronavirus outbreak when offices closed March 17, 2020, patients were involved with working on the upgrades and modifications of the vehicle.
By March 31, 2020, the off-road vehicle had been disassembled by patients, then outfitted with a new stainless steel dash from Silvey Metal Works, new OEM steel wheels from Coker Tire, and Firestone 7.00-15 military tires that were mounted and balanced by the Lee Highway Goodyear Service Center. In order to keep costs low and allow the foundation to use this as both an educational tool for patients and a fundraising effort, the partners in this build donated their time, talents, and products. Truck N’ Trailer USA also graciously provided space for working on the ROXOR, along with the foundation’s multiple Industrial Arts Therapy projects.
Industrial arts therapy involves the fabrication of objects through metal, wood, rubber, paint, and more, all with an occupational therapy component. These alterations made to the ROXOR test the children’s team-building skills, cognitive function, and motor skills, all while provoking a passion for learning that helps patients recover physically, mentally and socially after treatment.
Once complete, the 2020 Mahindra ROXOR Off-Road vehicle will be auctioned to raise funds for the foundation's mission to erase the effects of childhood cancer.
