Austin Hatcher Foundation to Introduce Spanish Translation Services

June 11, 2020

  • Mental health counseling and occupational therapy services will now be offered in Spanish via real-time translator

  • Services can be obtained via telehealth and are free to any family facing pediatric cancer

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 10, 2020) – The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer will be offering Spanish translation services to serve a wider range of multilingual patients and families.

The Foundation has recruited the help of Lyana Osborn to serve as the Spanish translator and aid in the foundation’s mission to erase the effects of childhood cancer.

Osborn is currently a part-time teacher at the Scenic Hills Christian Academy in San Antonio, TX., where she teaches Spanish and Arts to children in Pre-K through 12th grade. She served in the United States Army Reserves for 4 years, and she has helped coordinate mission trips to Latin American countries, where she served as a Spanish translator, for 8 years.

“It’s so important to offer Spanish translation to families who, might not only need, but would rather communicate through a different language than English” Lyana Osborn said. “This will open a better communication line for both staff and patients, and help relate between two cultures and communities as families seek vital pediatric cancer recovery services.”

“There is a great need for the no-cost services we provide, and we realized that many families facing pediatric cancer may also require these therapy and recovery services to be offered in Spanish,” said Austin Hatcher Foundation President, Amy Jo Osborn. “We saw a need in the community we serve, and we are fortunate to be able to meet that need. With the help of Lyana’s real-time translation services, families seeking mental health counseling or occupational therapy can now obtain these free services in Spanish from our licensed providers.”

Due to COVID-19, the Austin Hatcher Foundation has been utilizing telehealth to offer services online to families faced with childhood cancer during the time they are temporarily closed to the public.
