The Austin Hatcher Foundation Offers Cogmed

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 17, 2022) – The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer is offering a new Brain Training Program, Cogmed, to patients and families who have been impacted by pediatric cancer. Cogmed is the most scientifically – validated cognitive intervention for improving working memory and attention deficits.

The foundation continues to seek evidence-based therapies for children and families to help them reach their full human potential. Licensed Psychologist, Dr. Julie Gersch has completed training and has begun implementing Cogmed for eligible patients.

Cogmed is an outgrowth of the Neuropsychological Testing services that are offered by the foundation in that can be one of the recommendations some families receive during their test report feedback session. This is likely if relative deficits are found in a function called “working memory”.

Working memory and attention deficits can interfere with one’s ability to focus, think, learn, and complete tasks. Because this impacts all areas of a person’s life, enhanced working memory skills can result in noticeable changes in academics or job performance, following directions at home, and participating in sports or hobbies.

Cognitive Neuroscience, combined with innovative computer game design and close professional support, enable Cogmed to deliver substantial and lasting benefits to clients as young as four.

Changes in brain function due to the Cogmed program will occur to the fullest extent if the entire program is completed by its design. This requires a distraction-free environment as well as a dedicated time commitment of at least 25 minutes several days a week across several weeks. The Austin Hatcher Foundation has taken steps to ensure that Cogmed services are delivered with the best patient outcomes in mind.
