About this Role

The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer is a national non-profit located in Chattanooga, TN whose mission is to erase the effects of pediatric cancer. We are seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Family Services Coordinator within our Psycho-Oncology Division at our headquarters and Educational Advancement Center in Chattanooga, TN. The Educational Advancement Center is a landmark pediatric cancer facility providing children and their families with the tools need to cope and thrive throughout the treatment experience as well as the essential skills for meaningful and productive lives as cancer survivors.

The comprehensive services offered at no cost to families include: individual, family and group counseling, neurocognitive testing, academic coaching/tutoring, school support for implementation of academic support plans, industrial arts therapy and diversionary events for family enrichment. Services are provided from diagnosis throughout the lifetime of the family. The Family Services Coordinator would collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to provide social, emotional and developmental support to affected children and siblings in our outpatient setting. The primary goals are to provide purposeful play, build and maintain positive relationships with patients, families and community partners, support our national diversionary therapy program and manage/further develop family programming events and activities.

Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Publicize the mission of the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer
  • Be an advocate for families dealing with the effects of pediatric cancer
  • Look for new innovative ways to provide care for families dealing with the effects of pediatric cancer
  • Assist development team in activities related to programs

Specific job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide administrative support to clinical staff including assisting with scheduling and record keeping.
  • Recruit, train, and/or supervise volunteers
  • Assist in the development of policies and events related to activities for children at the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
  • Develop and manage family programming events and activities.
  • Assist in the acquisition and writing of grant monies for Family Services programming.
  • Assist in developing mechanisms and strategies for implementation of educational enhancement in
  • areas of identified need, when appropriate.
  • Oversee, maintain and make recommendation for the acquisition of appropriate educational games and
  • supplies utilized within the Austin Hatcher Foundation divisions/programs.
  • Motivate and challenge children in fun, educationally productive activities while at the Austin Hatcher
  • Foundation and/or special events
  • Develop and maintain appropriate record keeping mechanisms for Family Programming.
  • Provide orientation, instruction and assistance to Host(s) in the implementation of fun, educationally
  • productive activities
  • Maintain all necessary filing for media release forms for social media and other media purposes.
  • Work with the Austin Hatcher Foundation Guests to get surveys completed and feedback from guest on
  • the services they received and perceived benefits.
  • Family Service Coordinator will supervise Hosts, Volunteers, Interns and other personnel working with
  • the children of the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
  • Assist with scheduling Diversionary Therapy services nationally as needed
  • Organize, oversee annual programs such as Giving Tree
  • Maintain thorough and accurate record keeping for all patients and progress
  • Maintain an appropriate environment for patients, families and visitors
  • Serve as community liaison on appropriate regional committees
  • Integrates with a team-based work environment
  • Provide reports in accordance with senior leadership
  • Other duties as assigned field

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Child Life, Education, Psychology or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in related field
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent team building skills
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to walk, bend, hear, see and lift 25 pounds
  • Occasional weekend and evening availability
  • Regional travel
