About this Role

The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer’s mission is to provide a lifetime of free, comprehensive support to pediatric cancer patients and their families through mental, behavioral, educational, and social services, so they can cope in the present and thrive in the future. The Foundation provides these services through its Education Advancement Center in Chattanooga, TN, as well as virtually, all at no cost to families. Services are funded solely by the generous donations of its supporters.

The Family Services Intern will work closely with the Family Services Coordinators, in addition to the Foundation's interdisciplinary clinical team and operations teams. We are looking for an individual who is eager, ready to learn, organized, detail-oriented, and most importantly loves kids!

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and Developing Family Programs (Parent’s Day/Night Outs, Enrichment Day/Summer Camps, grief groups, Tutoring, and more!)
    • These programs include the need for developmentally appropriate activities, therapeutic play, group and individual sessions, and creating detailed and organized schedules.
  • Working with a collaborative team including but not limited to OT, Counselor, LMFT, LCSW, Graphic Designer, etc. 
  • Offering resources and family support
  • Welcoming, sitting, and conversing with families to ensure we are meeting their needs
  • Purposeful Play/Enrichment/Therapeutic activities for all ages
  • Assisting at Special Events
  • Raising Awareness and donations for the Foundation by contacting local businesses
  • Administrative Duties
  • Crafting 
  • Toy Clean Up
  • Snack Drive
  • Possible Diversionary Therapy Visits in Hospital 
  • Working with a large population and children with various special needs

Requirements

  • Must be a senior in college for Child and Family Development, Child Life, or Family Services.
