From diagnosis through survivorship, we empower children and families by providing access to life-changing therapies, education, and support—always at no cost to them.
Occupational Therapy is an essential component of support for childhood cancer patients. At the Austin Hatcher Foundation our vision is all childhood cancer patients, survivors, and the entire family reach their full human potential through education, balance, and health & well-being. Occupational therapy services are performed in a non-traditional setting, through interdisciplinary clinical team.
The Austin Hatcher Foundation is a growing, dynamic, and supportive team of non-profit intervention specialist, focused on dynamic interventions which assist with overcoming the long-term effects of pediatric cancer interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Publicize the mission of the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer
- Be an advocate for families dealing with the effects of pediatric cancer

Job Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop an OT treatment plan through evaluation, use of clinical knowledge, judgement and therapeutic skills.
- Schedule, and treat a part-time caseload of clients.
- Creatively engage clients in individualized patient-led therapeutic tasks based on their interests.
- Facilitate the development of cognitive abilities, fine motor, sensory integration, social skills, handwriting, positive self-image, and more through evidence-based techniques.
- Serve as a part of a multi-disciplinary team and utilize clinical skills to complete screens, consultations, treatment notes, and evaluations in a timely manner.
- Evaluate clients' strengths/weaknesses through clinical observation, standardized and informal assessment, teacher/parent reports, and medical records in order to develop individualized treatment, goals, and plan of care.
- Participate in research projects conducted at Foundation, including connecting with possible participants, scheduling and overseeing progress.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal and certifications requirements.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Document patient care services in timely, professional manner, within 72 hours of seeing patient.
- Evaluate results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress and recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
- Guide and educate family members and caregivers.
- Collaborate with clinical team on internal referrals for Industrial Arts, Recreational Therapy, etc.
- Supervise OT interns.
- Collaborate with clinical team for multidisciplinary approach with patients.
Requirements
- Successful completion/graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program
- Must have appropriate and current Tennessee State Licensure and be willing to consider additional state licensures as necessary.
- Proven working experience as Occupational Therapist.
- Current knowledge of treatment practices per discipline
- Experience working with a variety of age groups including toddlers, preschoolers and/or school age populations through young adult
- Knowledge of MS Word and comfortable with working with databases
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work with colleagues, administrators, and parents to enhance the learning experience and ensure student success.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
- Demonstrable ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines
- Well-organized with a detail-oriented approach
- Exquisite communication and people skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to walk, bend, hear, see and lift 25 pounds
