What is Playing for Purpose?

Playing for Purpose empowers sports and fitness teams to give back with a game designed by you, for your community – with no minimum goals or deadlines. Any team with a passion for philanthropy can participate, regardless of location, division, sport, or affiliation. The Austin Hatcher Foundation provides a hosting site for your giveback game, which your team can fully customize to fit your vision.

EACH YEAR, The Austin Hatcher Foundation partners with Lee University'S Women's Lacrosse and Soccer Teams for "Playing for Purpose" games – IN ADDITION TO DOZENS OF GIVEBACK GAMES HOSTED BY STUDENT AND ADULT SPORTS TEAMS.

LaCROSSe Out Cancer

March 3, 2026

In 2025, individuals from families affected by childhood cancer came out to the 3rd annual LaCROSSe Out Cancer game at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. This community event, presented by Food City, brought together parents, siblings, survivors, and diagnosed children for an afternoon of fellowship, games, food, and fun. The event served as a day of community for these affected families as well as a fundraiser for the Austin Hatcher Foundation.

Kickin' It for Kids with Cancer

September 26, 2025

For the past 18 years, the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer has partnered with the women's soccer team at Lee University to host "Kickin' It for Kids with Cancer," a fundraiser that also doubles as a fun night out for the families the foundation serves in the Chattanooga and Cleveland TN area. This event raises funds and awareness to support families facing childhood cancer, while also providing them with a special and memorable evening of fun, food, and soccer. In the weeks preceding the event, the team helps raise money by selling special shirts to be worn at the game and in the community.
