CityScope’s Moth Ball Raises $67,000 to Support Women and Families at the Austin Hatcher Foundation
  • The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer provides a variety of cost-free services such as counseling and therapy to women and caregivers facing childhood cancer in their family

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 10, 2023) – On Thursday, April 27, nearly 1,000 women gathered at the New Signal in downtown Chattanooga to attend the annual Moth Ball® by CityScope®, this year benefiting the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. The dinner dance party event raised $67,000 for the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, the nation’s only 100%-free whatever-it-takes-to-empower-families-to-thrive pediatric cancer foundation.

The Moth Ball is the largest single event attended by women in the Chattanooga area. Each year, the Moth Ball benefits a different Chattanooga-area nonprofit that supports women in need. This year, the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer was selected as the beneficiary. The Foundation provides critical support and resources for free to families affected by pediatric cancer, such as counseling, occupational therapy, music and art therapy, individual and group therapy and more.

"The work done at the Austin Hatcher Foundation would not be possible without donations and support,” said AHF’s Director of Development, Melanie Hammontree. “We are so grateful to have been chosen as CityScope's beneficiary for Moth Ball this year and for all of the generous sponsors who were partners in making this incredible event happen. Funds raised directly support AHF's evidence-based programs and services supporting women and families in Chattanooga facing a pediatric cancer journey."

The Austin Hatcher Foundation knows that when a family is faced with a childhood cancer diagnosis, their world is changed forever. Research shows that women most often assume the role of primary caregiver, and thus experience high levels of anxiety, correlated with post-traumatic stress, difficulties making decisions, loss of memory, difficulty with concentration, and insomnia when facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis in their family. The Austin Hatcher Foundation recognizes the challenges faced by these families and is committed to providing psychosocial and psychological services at no cost.

The Moth Ball® by CityScope® has been raising funds for nonprofits supporting women in the Chattanooga area since its founding in 2012, and has raised over $427,000 to date. This year's event was a testament to the generosity and commitment of the community to support those in need. The evening featured music, dancing, blinky rings, a photo booth and a delicious dinner. The event was made possible by the generous support of sponsors and attendees.

“The Moth Ball by CityScope is a wonderful way for our company to give back to the community,” said George Mullinix, owner of CMC Publications. “With the support of our generous sponsors, nearly 1,000 ladies who attended the Moth Ball, and our team, who worked tirelessly to host the event, we are thrilled to gift $67,000 to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.”
