Meet Jesús

Jesús rang the bell last month, marking his final round of chemo treatment! Jesús Vazquez and his family joined the Austin Hatcher Foundation a little over two years ago, after he was diagnosed with Leukemia (T-cell ALL) at only 10 years old.

That diagnosis was the beginning of a tough and courageous journey that included aggressive chemotherapy, radiation treatments, brain surgery, and serious complications such as pancreatitis, seizures, kidney damage (KCD Stage 2), and lung issues.

But Jesús never gave up hope. His strength, along with the unwavering love of his family — his mom (Sonia), his dad (Luis), and his sister (Tania) — the music he loves so much, and the support from organizations that walked beside him, were key to keeping his spirit alive.

“For a little over two years, we have been one of the families supported by the Austin Hatcher Foundation,” says Luis Pineda, Jesús’ father. “Through AHF’s programs, we’ve received counseling, joyful experiences, various camps, and therapeutic services for Jesús and our entire family. But above all, we’ve received the warmth, love, and genuine care of their amazing staff — something that has made all the difference on this journey.”

On April 19, 2025, Jesús officially completed his treatment. And on May 5, surrounded by applause and lots of joyful tears, he rang the bell — symbolizing the end of this difficult chapter and hope for what lies ahead.
