Southern Honda Powersports Donates Two Motorcycles to Austin Hatcher Foundation

●      Patients in the Industrial Arts Therapy Program will modify bikes for therapy

●      Motorcycles also to be sold at auction and raise funds for foundation

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (November 23, 2020) – Southern Honda Powersports donated two vintage motorcycles, a 1965 BSA A50 MC and 1971 Triumph NE0 MC, to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. The foundation’s patients will modify and upgrade these motorcycles as part of industrial arts therapy, provided at no cost to children and families facing pediatric cancer.

“After hearing the story behind the Austin Hatcher Foundation, Industrial Arts Therapy really resonated with us as a tool for recovery in more ways than one,” said Owner of Southern Honda Powersports, Tim Kelly. “We are thrilled to provide the Foundation with these motorcycles to be used for an activity for these families to focus on that also provides healing.”

This donation will immediately support the foundation’s Industrial Arts Therapy program, giving patients and their families a new therapy build project to work on during their various sessions. Both bikes will be modified by patients in a “shop class” setting under the guidance of Industrial Arts Director Jonathan Myren. Working on these projects will function as therapy for these patients as they add upgrades and modifications to each motorcycle, before the motorcycles are eventually sold at auction as a vital fundraiser for the foundation.

“These motorcycles will provide a fun and interactive challenge and will be great for our patients to work on,” said Austin Hatcher Foundation President Amy Jo Osborn. “We’re very grateful to Southern Honda Powersports for making this exciting opportunity possible for our families. It’s also special to see members of our community continually creating opportunities to make a difference for our families.”
